With Opening Day less than a week away, ESPN baseball analysts Curt Schilling and John Kruk participated in a conference call with reporters on Wednesday and fielded several questions about some of the biggest storylines of the 2015 season.
One topic that came up was the outlook for the Boston Red Sox's starting rotation, particularly with the addition of right-hander Rick Porello, a Chester native who starred at Seton Hall Prep.
Kruk, a former first baseman for the Phillies, addressed the question and offered the following evaluation of Porcello:
The Red Sox acquired Porcello from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in December. While Clay Buchholz is scheduled to be Boston's Opening Day starter, Porcello will pitch the second game of the season by taking the mound against the Phillies on April 8.
Porcello went 15-13 with a 3.43 ERA last year with the Tigers.
