John Kruk says ex-Phillies ace Curt Schilling's comments should be taken with 'grain of salt'

John Kruk apparently thinks people shouldn't get too riled up over anything that comes out of the mouth of Curt Schilling, his former Phillies teammate and current ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast partner.

Schilling got himself in hot water on Aug. 25 by comparing Muslims to Nazis in a tweet, which led to him being suspended by ESPN for its Little League World Series coverage and Sunday night's game in Los Angeles between the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.

Commenting on Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw recently saying his team needs to have a sense of urgency, Kruk suggested his teammates listened even though major leaguers often take what a pitcher says "with a grain of salt, like we do with some people we work with here when they say something."

That was it, not even a mention of Schilling's name, although everyone knew who Kruk was taking about.

It's no secret that Schilling wasn't well-liked by a lot of teammates when he played with the Phillies, especially by many of the players on their 1993 World Series team. Some players and executives still talk about how they disliked Schilling as a person.

Phillies executive Ed Wadel in fact, famously once said, "Every fifth day Curt's our horse. The other four days, he's our horse's ass."

Schilling, by the way, missed a memorable game Sunday night, as Cubs ace Jake Arrieta pitched a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Dodgers.
