Yet, in true Sturgill style, he as you moving and grooving as you hear him spin his tales. I simply adore the horn section that has been added to the mix, kinda makes it a bit funky. And the dreamlike state that is created in the cover of Nirvana's "in Bloom", is mood altering to say the least, kinda like a lullaby. "Brace for Impact", delivers one of my favorite messages for life,..life is for living, don't waste a minute of it. The added touch of all the songs blending together, something Sturgill is famous for in his live performances, is a nice touch. I would like to add that the lengths that each person stretched the boundaries is outstanding. The guitars are beyond amazing. It is as if the band's contribution to the album is a gift to the newborn son, and they gave it more than 100%. The song "All Around You", is delivered like a letter to his son. It is the message every parent would love to leave to their child. And "Oh Sarah", is definitely a love song, xoxo. "Call to Arms", is rowdy, rambunctious tune, that rips it up, and gets ya head bopping!
Sturgill Simpson hit another game winning home run with "A Sailor's Guide to Earth". I highly recommend that you give this a listen, and then add it to your collection. It will surely be one of the highest rated albums of the year in Americana music. Congratulations Sturgill, you surpassed my expectations...xoxo to your son.
