What is DACA? A look at the Immigration Program Trump is Ending

A program that defends the rights of young immigrants, especially children who were illegally taken to the U.S has been ended. But there are many questions regarding the impact of this program being ended. Here’s a look at the program and the fate of 800,000 people who fall under this program-

What is DACA?

DACA refers to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It is a kind of administrative aid that saves millions of youth from deportation. This program was started by the Barack Obama on June 2012.

The main purpose of DACA is to protect the eligible youth immigrants from deportation. DACA provides a safe zone to the young immigrants having no document and also offers-

  • Protection from deportation
  • A work permit and this program expires after two years, subject to renewal.

But, perhaps, DACA program is going to end by the president of US. The DACA policy was rescinded by the Trump administration on September 5, 2017, but complete implementation of the reversal was delayed six months to give Congress time to decide how to deal with the people that were earlier eligible under this program.

On the abolishment of this beneficiary program, various tweets are coming from different people. In the starting of this month, the president Trump tweeted-

“For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about — No action!”

But still, the DACA is being dismantled by the Trump administration. The Michael Wildes a renowned lawyer who had represented the First lady Melania Trump for her immigration status, is also very hopeful that DACA won’t be ended by the Trump administration and Congress.

Special Bond with DACA-

Michael Wildes has had a special bond to immigration reform and DACA, as his father- Leon Wildes, represented the musician John Lennon under the DACA policy and explained the meaning of deferred action in a court of law.

Michael Wildes has raised his voice in the support of DACA and now works with several of the program’s recipients.

During an interview, Wildes said-

“I believe the president has a great heart, and I have represented his family and businesses for many years now”.

And also stated that-

“He appreciates foreign talent and children. And the golden doors of America should be open to these good souls.”

Wildes offers guidance to members of various groups and said-

“Understand the possible consequences of filing for DACA.”
