Through my reverbnation profile I have recently opted to donate 50% of the sales of my new track ‘Innocence’ to the WaterAid charity 'charity: water’ and this blog post is going to explain why. Hopefully you’ll agree with my reasoning and make a decision to purchase my track from this site.

Every year in the UK we have Comic Relief, it’s an opportunity to raise money for charities that help the deprived both at home and abroad. It’s brought to the forefront of the nations thoughts via a TV show which includes comic sketches as well as videos highlighting where the money goes and the people in most need. I remember being struck by a video of kids in Africa who struggled to get clean water and as a result developed all sorts of diseases from Guinea Worm Disease to Malaria. It was shocking to see the consequences of not having something that the majority of us take for granted on a daily basis - clean water. 

I’m sure today we’ve all benefited from having access to clean water without really thinking about it - a shower, cup of tea, brushing your teeth - it’s all done without much thought in the 'first world’ but it’s a luxury that many are denied.

It wasn’t the Comic Relief segment alone that stirred me to think more about the subject, more the lazy, uneducated facebook posts I saw from (now ex) Facebook Friends…these ranged from “why help those abroad, we have enough issues in Britain” to other mindless ramblings which totally missed the point. Don’t get me wrong, there are indeed a number of issues in Great Britain that do need resolving but, thankfully, having access to clean water is not one that bubbles to the top of the list. We should be thankful for a lot and not forget just how unfortunate some others in the world are, after all, it is purely down to luck that we were  born in the Countries we were!

So, in short, that is why I decided that every sale of 'Innocence’ through Reverbnation will result in Charity: Water getting 50%. The track only costs $1.20 and believe me, you will be doing some good as well as enjoying a thoroughly good rock 'n’ roll song ;-)
