Fearless’ Punk Goes 90’s Volume 2 comes out tomorrow. PropertyOfZack is teaming up with the label to post a new Discussion featuring bands on the release discussing their first bands and instruments from the 90’s. We also included some photos of band members back in the day showing their true-punkness. Pick up a copy of 90’s Vol. 2 here and check out the feature below!

What was the year you started your first band? What was the band name? (Any photos?)

The Color Morale - Garret Rapp (Lead Singer): Steve and I started a band together in like 2004/2005 called The Killer Apathy.

Chunk No Captain Chunk - Paul Wilson (Guitar) : 2003 or 2004, the band was called Firepants (Jonathan was also playing drums in this band).

The Ghost Inside - Jonathan Vigil (Vocals) : My first band was called “A Dying Dream.” We eventually changed our name to The Ghost Inside and became the band we are today. I guess I’ve only ever been in one band. We started in 2004 and The Ghost Inside is still going strong.

Get Scared - Adam Virostko (Guitar) :1997, AGaNG

Get Scared - Bradley “Lloyd” Iverson (Guitar)2001 Me, Nick and a couple other friends started a pop punk band called ‘Fill The Blank’

Get Scared - Dan Juarez (Drums):  2003, Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Ice Nine Kills - Spencer Charnas (Lead Singer) : The year I started my first band, Blind Ambition, was in 1995. We played “Dive” by Nirvana and “Tomorrow” by Silverchair at my middle school talent show. My Yamaha Pacifica guitar was bigger than my whole body but I still rocked out!

Mayday Parade - Jake Bundrick (Drums) : Oh man. Back in 1999 or 2000. We were called Sucker Punch. I played guitar. We needed a drummer so that’s when I started playing drums. We have a few photos of us in Mayday’s photo book we just released.

Hands Like Houses:  Hands Like Houses has slowly evolved from a high school band that Joel and Coops started in 2005 called “Last Days”, the highpoint of that band being that it had two bass players and three guitarists.

Memphis May Fire – Jake Garland (Drums)- I joined my first band in 2003 and we were called Addalynn, or something. Ha! I can’t even remember how we spelled it.

Memphis May Fire – Kellen McGregor (Lead Guitar) - My first band was called Shotgun Saviours, and we were basically a New Found Glory rip off band.

Memphis May Fire – Cory Elder (Bass) - 2003, and the band was called Page 21 (Photo attached). My friend, Garrett Venable, had picked up guitar and my interest to play bass was reignited. I had expressed interest in playing bass to my dad years before that though, maybe around age 8 or 9. My dad’s good friend and musician, “J” Starkey, had an old 70s Fender Jazz that was bigger than my body at the time so my bass playing dream was put on hold for years until I grew into it.

Memphis May Fire – Anthony Sepe (Guitar)  - R.A.F.A and started in  2001!!

When you got your first instrument, what was the first song ever that you learned how to play?

The Color Morale - Garret Rapp (Lead Singer) : I can guarantee for Steve it was a Blink 182 song haha.

Chunk No Captain Chunk - Paul Wilson (Guitar) : Blink 182 - Story Of A Lonely Guy was the first song i learned on guitar.

The Ghost Inside - Jonathan Vigil (Vocals) : I actually don’t know how to play any instruments!

Get Scared - Adam Virostko (Guitar): Harmony electric guitar from JC Penney Catalog. Come As You Are, Nirvana

Get Scared - Bradley “Lloyd” Iverson (Guitar): The first full song I ever learned on guitar was “smells like teen spirit” by Nirvana.

Get Scared - Dan Juarez (Drums)My first instrument a 4 string yamaha bass, I still own it today. My dad showed me the riff line from Peter Gunn Theme song and I shredded that thing for months!

Ice Nine Kills - Spencer Charnas (Lead Singer) : I got my first guitar when I was 9 years old for the sole reason of learning how to play “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. From the second I saw the raw energy and chaos of that music video, I knew that playing in a big rock band was what I wanted to do with my life.

Mayday Parade - Jake Bundrick (Drums) My Dad taught me how to play the song “House Of The Rising Sun” by Animals. I had to look that up because I didn’t know who actually sang it. It has most of your major guitar chords in it so that’s why my Dad taught it to me.

Hands Like Houses - Matty Parkitney (Drums): The Russian Waltz on piano.

Hands Like Houses - Alexander  Pearson (Rhythm Guitar): Smoke on the water on guitar.

Hands Like Houses - Matt “Coops” Cooper (Lead Guitar): Puff the magic dragon on piano

Memphis May Fire – Jake Garland (Drums) - I think the first song(s) I was stoked on learning on the drums was the intros to “Voices” by Disturbed and “Chop Suey” by SOAD!

Memphis May Fire – Kellen McGregor (Lead Guitar) - My first “instrument” was when I was a percussionist and I got a practice pad drum kit instead of a real drum kit b/c my parents weren’t quite ready for me playing on the real thing.

Memphis May Fire – Cory Elder (Bass)- The theme music from an old 50s spy show called, Peter Gunn.

Memphis May Fire – Anthony Sepe (Guitar) - “Come as you are” by Nirvana
