Leonard Nimoy was more than just a pretty half-Vulcan face. He also enjoyed a successful recording career, conducted numerous photographic projects, and even—you may not know this—published seven books of poetry. In this section from Leonard, William Shatner’s reminiscence of their friendship, he recalls the passion behind Nimoy’s famous impassivity.
I did not know those first few years we worked together that Leonard wrote poetry. Rather, I didn’t know that Leonard was a poet. That was a part of his soul that I hadn’t met yet. That part of the brain that I had become most familiar with was his straight-ahead intellect; he was very focused on the reality of his performance, on solving script problems and negotiating a fair deal. He lived very much in the world of traffic jams, bills to be paid at the end of the month, and the next job, always the next job. Poetry didn’t seem to be part of that world; it came from a very different place, and until his first book of poetry, You & I, was published he had never allowed me—or, as far as I know, anyone else from the show—access to it.
San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner, and last year we brought all of you with us… by displaying your art on our jumbo-sized video cube! We’d like to do the same this year, but we need your help.
If you have fanart or fan crafts from Orphan Black or season 8 of Doctor Who, we’d like you to submit them to us for a chance to see them at the convention!
Here’s how to submit-
1. If you have fanart/fan crafts from Orphan Black or Doctor Who Season 8, send it at its highest resolution, under 9MB (otherwise we won’t receive it), as a JPEG or TIFF file. 2. Send it to artsubmission@bbcamerica.com and include your Tumblr username or however else you’d like to be credited. You don’t need a Tumblr account to submit! 3. If your artwork is chosen to be featured, we’ll respond with a release form for you to sign and send back to us. And don’t fret if your artwork isn’t chosen, it’s only because of the volume of submissions we’ll receive.
Deadline for submissions: June 12th, 12PM EST
And don’t worry- you still have ownership of your artwork if you submit it to us and will only be giving us permission to display it. We can’t wait to see what everyone sends us!
Due to the volume of submissions we’re accepting up to 3 pieces of artwork per person, please send each one as a separate e-mail.
We’ve updated our post to address some questions we’ve received over the past few days-
1. You don’t need a Tumblr account to submit your work, you should include whatever name or username we should use to credit you. 2. Fan crafts are still fanart, so feel free to submit even if your artwork isn’t drawn on paper. 3. We don’t ever choose artwork based entirely on aesthetics, so if your artwork isn’t chosen it’s only because we can’t choose everyone (but we’d love to, if we could!)
Submissions have started coming in and we love what we’ve received so far. Thanks for submitting and we can’t wait to see the rest!
This is a reminder that the deadline to submit art for our SDCC jumbo-tron screen is in 12 hours!
