Six Rivers

These days I’m aiming to better my truth
Whether I am with pride and in full
Cause words are wasted only by fools
Who don’t admit their losings too
These days I’m aiming to leave well the land
To try and give back what I can
My footprint is light, if I’m doing it right
And then I’m being a better man
These days I’m aiming to calm it all down
Guiding my heart to my mind
Is it too much to ask, to just relax
And keep up your end of the pact
But these days I’m aiming to be none the wise
To inspire in me all the advice…
And to just to be happy without compromise
And reside in Six Rivers for awhile

Alrance, France
03:31
|
|
||
Tucked away like the hills of Carolina
We followed French roads making waves behind us
Until a town emerged above the tree line higher
Captivated our American eyes like a campfire
And it was crippled by wars and rainfall
We saw the old castle
We laughed in stone houses
Made of it’s fallen walls
No, we didn’t share much in common
But I cannot forget the chance
I had to be from Alrance
The new mayor was appointed, so we raised a flagpole
A bunch of us falling backwards slipping off the ropes
And the town drunk seemed to make everyone smile
As we all sang french songs, singing’
Ooh lah lah tres bien!
ooh lah lah magnifique!
With all the bread and cheese a man could dream to see
And it was crippled by wars and rainfall
We saw the old castle
We laughed in stone houses
Made of it’s fallen walls
No, we didn’t share much in common
But I cannot forget the chance
I had to be from Alrance

Strawberry Blonde
03:23
|
|
||
I remember a slender figure
So careful in each stare
You were barefoot, wide eyed, in no rush
A newly freed heart, flighty as a spring dove
And your strawberry blonde hair
Fell to your ears then
You were ready for a change
I was ready for a change
And to love again
We’re newly freed hearts, flighty as spring doves
I remember the nights we hardly slept
Misunderstanding the other
Using harsh tones to prove choice words
Forgetting our freed hearts, flighty as spring doves
I remember all versions of you
In my love for you now
That old strawberry blonde
Falls passed your ears down, golden white
You’ve gone through plenty changes
And I have done the same
We’ve got a better understanding
Of having freed hearts flighty as spring doves

With What You Have
03:57
|
|
||
When we last met I was tired and broken
From the things we didn't say, and other words spoken
My my, did it untie the romance
My my, did it inspire a change in plans
Living and loathing out of a suitcase
Traveling in a tin box rolling down the interstate
And I'm crossing lines made up in the sky
With different beliefs and bedtimes
Often times I'm lost, and so I listen to the wind
It begs me to think new thoughts and start again
If I see myself from the eyes of someone else
Maybe my eyes will see my life and that all is well
When we last met I was tired and broken
From the things we didn't say and other words spoken
My my...
Is your heart glad with what you have?
Cause if your hearts glad
That's all I can ask

The Hold Up
04:31
|
|
||
I went to a corner store
With holes in my drawers
I left all my cigarettes up in smoke
There was a man behind the counter
He hailed from Louisiana
And he was kind in our only encounter
I grabbed matches and booze
Cigarettes too, and he turned me a smile
That I wish I’d known awhile longer
And if it were any other day
I’d have been whistling and walkin’ away
But when life pulls the reigns
And whips at the mane
You can’t help but to find more pain
I gathered up my shame
I’d been feeling for days
It would not help me to sustain
And I thought of my kids
My wife and the shit we’d gone through just to get here to this
When you hit the bottom
And your soul is rotten
You just keep dropping a little lower
So I took a deep breath
From all I had left
I raised my hand, holding my regret
The pistol pointed last
And when I grabbed all the cash
He reached for his widow maker fast
Then all that transpired was done with one fire
And none of my shame was left to desire

What am I supposed to think?
What am I supposed to think?
When you can't hear opinions
That question your own beliefs
And your own contradictions
A frame of mind is hard for those who choose not to see
What am I supposed to think
Your attention lacks compassion
And the words you choose to speak
Are ripe with flaws and backlash
Light enough to float, yet somehow still they manage to sink
What am I supposed to think?
It's about time I started using my mind
To better my beliefs
What am I supposed to think?
When injustice runs rampant
Bought up by monopoly
My government cannot govern me
And fix me up with a tie, and a working wage by and by
What am I supposed to think?
It's about time I started using my mind
To better my beliefs
What am I supposed to think?
What good is resistance?
Well who are we supposed to be?
When they push us in their systems
To be happy within
Just as long as your giving in
To a life without thinking twice
What am I supposed to think?
It's about time I started using my mind
To better my beliefs

This Land
03:03
|
|
||
Take heed, take heed, of the warnings gone by
Our brothers and sisters will all be defined
By these tattered remains that we leave behind
At the rate were going, destroying mankind
Take heed, take heed, for the battle cry
Our leaders are lying before our own eyes
What tattered remains will we leave behind
At the rate were going, blind leading the blind
Take heed, take heed, it's a lonely fall
Our children may suffer after us all
With these tattered remains we leave behind
At the rate were going with senseless minds
Have a laugh, have a drink
It's only the brink that were treading on
What on earth makes us think
This land is here to starve under our feet?
But take heed, take heed, for we must try
To turn round the tides and live different lives
Our children will use what we leave behind
And there ain't a notion quite like hindsight

Hurt and Heal
03:44
|
|
||
Why must we hurt and then heal
Does having loss have appeal
For to be gone with all that diggin deep
Could run you down too narrow a street, surely...
Why must we hurt and then heal
Tell me is it wrong to learn how we feel
For to be gone with all that diggin deep
Could run you down too narrow a street, surely...
And haste is a wicked test of fate
For crying out loud
You can't make all those rainy days
Your cloak and shroud
Surely....
Why must we hurt and then heal
We can all be fake, we can all be real
For to be gone with all that diggin deep
Could run you down too narrow a street Surely...
Why must we hurt and then heal...

Current of the Sea
03:17
|
|
||
Oh what a fool you’ve been
Two years later you still ain’t learned
How to hold me in your thoughts
And include me in your plans
How could I be so weak?
I let time pass over hoping for a change
Yet again and again your one way mind is all that speaks
I lose control
I lose the cost
If forever all I find
Must be lost
Now which shall it be
When your blood is but a current of the sea?
Oh you're throwing words to the wind
You best yourself by being yourself
Man these colors your showing this evening
Are not so becoming of you
How could I be so weak?
I let time pass over hoping for a change
Yet again and again your one way mind is all that speaks
I lose control
I lose the cost
If forever all I find
Must be lost
Now which shall it be
When your blood is but a current of the sea?

All About Nothing
04:15
|
|
||
Who am I to decide
What my life will design?
When I've never been an architect
Nor a builder of sorts
But I can tear down anything
If I forget what I stand for
And I've got an inkling
I've traced it 32 years back
I know all about nothing
I know all about that
I'm having a real hard time
Picking out solid lines
To stick to and refine
To make them only mine
All of my life
I've gone where the wind blew me
I pushed off when it shook me
I held on when it moved me
I got high if it took me
Then rolled on when it wasn't for me
And I've got an inkling
I've traced it 32 years back
I know all about nothing
I know all about that
I'm having a real hard time
Picking out solid lines
To stick to and refine
To make them only mine
I've discovered you can muster
Many fields of golden luster
But it's not just you
Making you do what you do...
And I've got an inkling
I've traced it 32 years back
I know all about nothing
I know all about that
I'm having a real hard time
Picking out solid lines
To stick to and refine
To make them only mine

In My Writing
02:29
|
|
||
I am still quite selfish
It is a weakness that some define
As harsh and relentless
Yet sometimes I cannot use what's mine
And seeing as how I'm singing town to town
You'll do well to see where I stand
Cause there is no hiding
In what I'm writing
And I will not flee from valor
I will not shake in my boots
I must surrender to the powers
That ache in my bones and my roots
It is specific
Can be prolific
It moves towards progress
But it takes a long time

Train Station Stop Blues
03:12
|
|
||
Waiting on a cloud to rain on me
I got nobody, ain’t nobody got me
And what I’m going through lately
Is I got nobody ain’t nobody got me
Waiting on the wind to blow me down
I only want to hear sounds that I want around
And I’ve got nobody ain’t nobody got me
Still I got nobody ain’t nobody got me
You know my destination’s unknown
If you ask me where I’m going lord I may just find it
Waiting on a cloud to rain on me
I got nobody, ain’t nobody got me
And what I’m going through lately
Is I got nobody ain’t nobody got me
Waiting on the wind to blow me down
I’ve got these train station stop blues all over me…
And I’ve got nobody ain’t nobody got me

Sounds of the Forest
03:23
|
|
||
Meet me down in the ravine
Where the water and the earth
Make trees and great scenery
There's more clean air to breath
We can camp in the sand
Along the river, running West
And we'll say nothing, but say everything
While the sounds of the Forest
Show us how to sing
Staring at the wild night sky
Catching flashing lights
Shooting stars and fireflies
There's more in those moments to see
More comfort and ease
Than most would dare to believe
And we'll say nothing, but say everything
While the sounds of the Forest
Show us how to sing

Tides
03:38
|
|
||
The moon pulls in
To the earth not the sun
So why must we pretend
That the tides aren't a part of us?
Don't be so hard on yourself
Its merely temporary
You give and you lose your head
To learn how to get it back again
