The Infantry Rockers – one of the longest running under the radar US reggae/dub cumbia/punk bands celebrates 15 years of music together with a limited edition vinyl release on DIY independent label Near & Far Records (US). This 4 song release features an upbeat blend of angry reggae and dub that can only be found in the Infantry Rockers’ unique sound.
The “Black History EP,” songs exhibit an enraged and earth shattering heavy mix of reggae with slight hints of echoed out African guitar, dubbed up to get the dance floor moving. Reworked heavy space-age stepper’s dub versions complement the original vocal versions. In essence, this limited edition EP sounds like the vibe of Rage Against the Machine meets Prince Fatty, meets Radio Bemba with Patois vocals.
This limited release by Near & Far Records features 400 copies in black vinyl and 100 copies in green vinyl. Included in the vinyl release is a free download with an additional 5 live tracks, for a total of 9 tunes.
Starting out as a dub collective in the 1990s with musicians from the US, Africa, and South America, the Infantry Rockers have been on different labels including the UK’s Dubhead Records, as well as Joe Strummer’s (of the Clash) non-profit Strummerville label, where they covered the Clash’s “Rebel Waltz.” Along with bands from Canada, the UK and US, this best-seller release titled “Shatter the Hotel” went on to achieve top chart status with rave reviews.
