Everything that we have comes from God, even to those who do not believe in God. God is the giver of life, and the provider of all that we are able to see and do. Have you ever heard of the old saying ‘I pulled myself up by my own boot straps’? Those who believe this are not only fooling themselves, but are calling God a liar. Today we shall use for our scriptural text the following two verses. The first coming from Luke 12:15 which reads; “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. “ And 1 John 5:21 Where we are told “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” And for a topic of discussion we shall use this thought “OUR POSSESSIONS” THE PETITION addressed to Christ, in this paragraph from which one of our text is selected, has been constantly made to Him in subsequent ages. Men are always demanding that He should divide the inheritance more equally. But our Lord did not come to adjust human relationships by the exercise of His autocratic will.
