On February 27, 2016, my families 6 month old puppy was shot by our neighbor after a dispute earlier in the day about his friends trespassing on our land. This was a senseless act carried out by a coward. Now because of current laws he faces less than a year in jail and possibly may only get probation. This is unacceptable. Our pets are still considered nothing more than "  property " in the eyes of the law. They are not property, they are our family members and unlike " property " they can't be replaced in incidents such as this. I am pushing for more jail time and to make the sentences mandatory with no chance of getting off on probation. Please make something good come of the loss of our beloved Sammy and others like him. We are the animals voices even after they are gone.
