WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT
SIKLUS is a science fiction film about love, time and space: an Earth couple travelling through space are confronted with difficult decisions when a life threatening crisis onboard their spaceship steers them dangerously close to a giant black hole.
This film is a synergy of Louis Minnaar’s passions for sci-fi storytelling, filmmaking, visual effects, animation, awesome soundtracks, editing, cool set design and the fresh new hybrid world of Afrikaans, all intersecting at the point where SIKLUS is conceptualized in his vast imagination. He has assembled a super-team of creative collaborators, although the vision, story and most of the technical creation remain the work of Louis himself.
Filmmaking is one of the most expensive art forms, and also one of the most collaborative mediums. Contributors to this campaign will literally help make every detail and element of SIKLUS more vivid and striking as the filmmaking team is equipped with more options - it’s almost like every cent contributed makes another pixel brighter and clearer and more realistically set in outer space.

Louis Minnaar is a highly versatile director, animator, musician and visual artist from South Africa. He studied art at Pro Arte and graduated from Open Window with a degree in Visual Communication. His friends know that he is obsessed with space and constantly daydreams about cruising around on the moon. He rediscovered a love for his mother tongue Afrikaans while creating music and films with his electro-rap band Bittereinder from 2009 to the present date. Louis has made dozens of award-winning music films and advertisements, and won the 2014 Short & Sweet Music Video Director of the Year Award (against some really stiff competition). WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET
Our story is set in space. And everybody knows space travel doesn’t come cheap. We have a lot of resources available but still need your help to make this a reality. For this film to become a reality that is true to our vision we need to:
1. Build a space ship interior.
2. Fill this space ship with believable elements - the right costumes, props, electronics etc.
3. Film the story (which entails studio rent, hiring a crew, hiring gear etc.).
4. Do an incredible amount of post-production.
5. Send the finished film all over the world.
All of these steps cost a lot of money. The final aim of this project is to spread the film across the world by entering it into international film festivals. This is where we believe our story will truly thrive as a film art project representing South Africa with a fresh new voice.
We are in the fortunate position to already have a portion of our budget funded by the very generous and amazing artist, and our newly appointed Executive Producer, Lionel Smit. So our funding goal is so much more achievable!
