Super Contra X for NES (Last Updated 3/24/21)

In case you don’t know Super Contra X is a side-scrolling run ‘n gun and “NES” stands for “Nintendo Entertainment System.” It can be played 1 player or 2 players, and when playing 2 players the 2 players don’t alternate, they play simultaneously and there’s no way to accidentally or on purpose hurt each other or get in each other’s way.

The only way you should play this game is: buy the Unlicensed Collection 142 in 1 Multicart for NES and it works in original NES systems and all Retron systems except the Retron 5 and it’s what we have and it works great in our Retron 2. This is not an official Contra game so there is no standalone cartridge for it for any system except a homemade one that only very rarely is available online but since its price is about the same as the Unlicensed Collection 142 in 1 Multicart for NES it does not make sense to buy it as you only get one game with it while you get 142 games with the other cartridge. It’s not on the Super Game 500 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Super Game 400 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Ultimate NES Remix 154 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Super Games 150 in 1 Multicart for NES, The 100 Best Videogames 143 in 1 Multicart for NES, or the Pocket Games 30 in 1 Multicart for NES.

So you don’t buy the game only to be disappointed, compared to the first 2 official Contra games you can’t shoot as fast which is frustrating at times, it does not have as good of music, and is also much harder playing all the way through with the extra lives code than the first 2 official Contra games are playing all the way through with their extra lives codes but there is codes for level select and you can use a 33 lives code with those codes, first you enter a level select code correctly then when you are redirected to the title screen you enter a 33 lives code.

Whenever you are on a higher level and want to drop down you can do so by crouching and pressing “A.”

The 33 lives codes must be entered at the title screen after the movement and music stops and while it will say after correct code entry before beginning game play that you have 9 lives you really have 33 lives and unlike other Contras after entering the code you will not get the amount of extra lives per continue, you will only get the amount of extra lives one time. Also, while usually when entering a game code at a title screen to get the code to work you have to enter it fast, with this game to get the code to work you have to enter it slow, as in like pressing one button per second.

33 Lives For 1 Player:
Press B 5 times, hold Up and press A 13 times, and then press Start, Start.
33 Lives For 2 Players:
Press B 5 times, hold Up and press A 13 times, then press Select, and then press Start, Start.

Transfer Lives:
Press A+B when out of lives to borrow a life from the other player. This only works when your player is out of lives and this only works when the other player is not on his last life. Also, it works at any time when your player is out of lives, so not only right when you ran out of lives but even minutes later. This code can be used over and over is especially nice to use when an advanced player is playing with a novice so the novice doesn’t have to sit around and wait for the advanced player to lose all their lives. Contra etiquette dictates you should ask the other player if it’s OK to borrow lives before you do it.

To use a level select code go to “password” then press A to select which number you want and Start to move to the next slot once you have selected the right number and B to erase a number that was selected and go back a slot (and B does not do anything if you’re already on the first slot). And there’s a glitch (unless it was done deliberately to make the game even harder to beat) where after beating level 6 it does not give you the password for level 7, you only get the password for level 7 if you beat level 7 then die on level 8 and then you have to beat level 7 a second time to get the password for level 8.

Level 2 Air fight: 1834
Level 3 Fountain factory: 2768
Level 4 City drainage: 7465
Level 5 Power factory: 6617
