Robelyn Garcia was born in 1965 in Phoenix, Arizona. She came to Dodge City Community College from Elkhart, Kansas in 1983. From DC3, Robelyn went on to the University of Nebraska and Friends University. A life-long scholar, Dr. Garcia has several college degrees: Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Liberal Arts & General Studies, Master's in Aging and Lifespan Development, Master of Science in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, Master of Arts in Criminal Justice & Criminology, Master of Education, Ph.D. in Education Administration, Ph.D. Doctor of Behavioral Health, and Master in Museum Technology. Dr. Garcia is an Arizona State University faculty affiliate in the Biomimicry Department. In addition to her post-secondary degrees, research, and teaching, she has several publications including her Guide to Coaching Youth Basketball. She currently competes in the Senior Olympics, winning gold medals in 2015, 2017, and 2018.
Dr. Garcia led the nation in scoring while at DC3 during the 1983-84 season and was fourth the 1984-85 season. She scored the second and third most points in a season at DC3 with 698 (1983-84), with total DC3 career points of 1,298. While at DC3, she was named NJCAA Region VI All-American. At Friends University, she averaged 20 points per game and led her team and the league in assists, garnering awards from the KCAC including first team All-Conference and NAIA Region All-Star. After college, she went on to play professionally in the WBA and was named the MVP of the 1993 Championships with her team the Kansas Crusaders. She was also a four-time WBA All-Star. Additionally, Dr. Garcia played in the Pro-Am, AAU Women's League, in Guadalupe, Mexico and was chosen to play in the Liberty Basketball Association professional league. She was honored in 2015 as one of the Top 10 trailblazers in Women's Professional Basketball at the WBCBL National Tournament. She made her mark in coaching history by leading the Haskell Indian Nation University Fighting Indians freshman team to a undefeated season in 1992 and coached several semi-pro, exhibition, and club teams.
Her volunteer work includes work with Bicycle Charities, American Red Cross, Special Olympics, and ASU Doctor of Behavior Health Student Forum. She also offers Jr. NBA-WNBA scholarships and has been the president of the SW Jr. Pro Basketball Program of the Jr. NBA-WNBA and vice-president of American Community Team Sports.
