WRUP: Gestalt Version

Gestalt is a psychological time period that refers to one thing larger as an entire than the sum of its components. This is not a tough phenomenon to see in action -- you've to mix flour, yeast, and cinnamon collectively to get a scrumptious loaf of cinnamon-swirl bread, in spite of everything. The term may also be applied to Transformers, which combine into a single enormous robot, normally one that's not notably delicious. Despite this reality, the official term remains "combiner" instead, presumably because the people who are in charge of naming are fearful about what would happen if everyone began using obscure psychology phrases.

Hey, as long as we're already speaking about combining issues, we would as effectively go entire-hog into this week's WRUP. That itself is a gestalt, however that doesn't seem quite spicy sufficient. Let's all speak about combining games together into a complete better than the sum of its parts. Yeah, that is the ticket. Jump on past the break for that and what the staff might be taking part in this weekend, then let us know in the comments what you'll be getting up to.

Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): I'll be ending up my time with Minions of Mirth and transferring on to The Realm On-line. I've simply barely started to play, but already the game may be very charming, and the community is awesome. Supposedly it is one of many oldest around! I am going to even be putting a lot more time constructing up my metropolis in Illyriad and attempting to hit the next stage in Ministry of Warfare. Then I'll proceed to make plans for taking per week to use no PCs at all and to live off only my telephone (for a future undertaking).

If I might combine two games, they can be Ryzom and The Chronicles of Spellborn. Not solely would it be the most effective-trying game in the whole history of the universe, but it might have everything I wished. Well, that is, if I could throw in some Wurm On-line as well. And uhm... combine in the epicness of Vanguard. Oh yeah, and could I throw in some Mabinogi crafting and its rebirth system? What about...

Brandon Felczer (@bfelczer): This weekend I'm going away on trip to my time share in Palm Springs and going to attempt to not take my laptop computer -- Ok, I am gonna take it however attempt to not open it. We are going to see how that goes. So, WRUP this weekend? LIFE!

If I may mix two game into one, it will undoubtedly be Star Trek Online and EVE Online -- that can be pure and utter madness!

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): It is come time for me to shut up the Massively Mob company in EVE Online and leave Massively Motivated in the hands of its administrators. It's been niggling at me because the EVE fanfest that operating a PvE company is not what I want to do or what I am good at, and forcing myself to do it has murdered my enthusiasm for taking part in. I'll be getting again into issues I take pleasure in extra, like PvP and playing the market in my own time.

If I could merge any two video games, it might be EVE Online and Age of Conan -- an odd mixture but one I believe would work. Having played on a PvP server in Age of Conan, I discovered that sneaking across the zones monitoring players down and smashing them to bits was extremely fun. EVE Online's single-shard structure, open-world territorial conflict, a form of policing and sentry turret system for protected areas, and a disposable gear system may all do wonders for AoC.

Eliot Lefebvre Ms. Lady and that i might be continuing to discover Remaining Fantasy XIV collectively, as she's been completely in love with the game now that she's obtained a machine able to handling it. I've additionally received The Sims Medieval to occupy my time, and I'd love to get back into Guild Wars with no matter spare moments are left.

Combining games is a bit of a pastime of mine to begin with, and plenty of those video games wind up being MMOs. I might like to see a mash-up between the setting and baroque, distinctive lessons of Final Fantasy XI with the talent system, armor system, and distinctly fast-paced breakdown of Guild Wars. Failing that, I might love to mash the setting of Sword 2 into a Star Trek Online-style engine. Combine up Fallen Earth and Metropolis of Heroes to offer me a Gamma World MMO!

Jef Reahard: A little bit of EVE and AoC here, and i've additionally returned to EverQuest II for a while (mainly as a result of it nonetheless has one of the best participant housing despite being seven years previous, /sniff).

My unholy hybrid could be Ultima Online plus Star Wars Galaxies, and going into details would take this complete column. In case you performed both, you understand why. It's onerous not to include EVE in there too, however I believe CCP will eventually turn it into the last word sandbox, so there'd actually be no purpose to mix it with something at that time.

Jeremy Stratton (@Jeremy_Stratton): I am persevering with my quest to acquire and improve a vahtos accessory-set for my Priest/Rogue in Runes of Magic. Although every accessory has a very different level-requirement and not one of the pieces goes close to the present degree-cap, they are still actually helpful for squishies (particularly a pew-pewing Priest). I didn't have to think for a second about which two video games I would mix. I'd like to see all the numerous enjoyable facets of Runes of Magic injected into the large and beautiful world of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster): As much as doable, I will be enjoying Lord of the Rings On-line to eek out all of that additional bonus XP for the anniversary weekend celebration. So no RIFT till Monday, alas!

Mixture-smart, it might be superior to see RIFT and City of Heroes mixed. The soul system and dynamic events of RIFT would lend themselves well to a superhero setting, and CoH has all the time had a few of the coolest combat and powers of any comedian book game.

Karen Bryan (@JayeRnH): It is Easter weekend plus the tail finish of faculty trip, so my playtime's limited. I will try to sneak in a little Pirates of the Burning Sea, though!

As for the bonus query, that's simple. I might like to see Minecraft combined with RIFT. I wish to see a airplane of  Minecraft  with 16-bit invasions and armies of creeers and zombies operating amok all over Telara.

MJ Guthrie: This weekend will see me cooking up a medley stew -- a sprint Lord of the Rings Online, a couple of shakes of STO, a heaping scoop of EverQuest II, and then a sprig of Aion for spice. I think that will fill me up pretty well!

Hmmm, properly the primary one can be simple to choose -- pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies! The emotes, the customization, the housing, the social classes, the crafting, the... I might go on and on. I would mix it with... um... Ok, the second selection is harder for me. I might very nicely select The Sims. I love to construct; to be able to design and assemble my own place would keep me entertained perpetually. Can I add in a few The Matrix On-line options as effectively? Actually, do not get me began as a result of I'd snag options from so many video games to make my excellent game! Then I may never enterprise into RL again...

Patrick Mackey (@mackeypb): Champions Online is doing a free Serpent Lantern weekend, so any participant can play it. I'm undoubtedly going to be operating some of it with pals. One in every of my mates is coming again from the army on depart, so I will even be doing stuff with him this weekend. We'll in all probability be playing Hisoutensoku and Artemis. I intend to add among the exploits to my YouTube channel, so if you're interested, examine some of that out.

If I could combine two video games into one, it would be EVE and Armored Core. Specifically, I might like a cutthroat economic participant-targeted mecha action recreation in a post-apocalyptic world, where gamers pilot robots as an alternative of ships and combat is blinding quick and skill-primarily based.

At the beginning of every weekend, we meet up with the Massively workers members and ask them, "What are you enjoying this week?" (Otherwise generally known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're as much as in and out of game -- and catch us in the feedback to let us know what you are enjoying, too!
