All Minecraft Biomes In 1.18 — brainhope80

Minecraft biomes are vast, varied, and full of things you definitely need. Each Minecraft world is randomly generated so there are no guarantees as to where you will find it. However, there may be clues if your attention is paid enough.

It's always worth going out and exploring above ground to try and find the Minecraft biomes that are near where you spawn. Each one provides different resources that may be needed in your journey. Each biome also contains different creatures, NPCs, as well as potential loot. It means that, while finding all of them is rarely essential to your progress, it might make things a bit easier.

It can be hard to remember the Minecraft biomes you have and what they include. Who among us has an encyclopedic memory of random things in games? We decided to compile them into one handy-dandy piece for you to peruse at leisure and find all the information you need. MINECRAFT

Minecraft Biomes

These are all the primary biomes for Minecraft:

Plains Swamp Forest Dark Forest Jungle Taiga Snowy Tundra Desert Badlands Savanna Mushroom Fields Mountains Caves Ocean

Plains

Plains are the most basic of the biomes, and likely the one you'll see the most. Aside from offering wide spaces full of grass and dirt for you to build or dig in, they're also replete with different farm animals, and can often contain villages too. There is also a subtype called sunflower plains that is - quite shockingly - full sunflowers.

Swamp

Swamps are similar to plains, but they have more trees, and the water and grass will be slightly different. Because there is so much water here, clay can be easily found. Swamps can also hold slimes as well as witch huts. This is a great location to start a Minecraft slimefarm.

Forest

Forest biomes are filled with trees. There are animals, but most forests are used to grow wood. There are many varieties of oak trees in forests. However, you can also find birch tree variants. There is no real difference except for the colour of the blocks that are made.

There's also a flower forest' variant that is almost identical, but with a lot more pretty flowers. You're more likely than not to find Minecraft honeyes.

Dark Forest

Dark forests are filled with massive trees and often huge mushrooms. This biome is more dangerous than normal forests because it lacks light. Hostile Minecraft mobs can spawn in this biome. Although it is possible to create a woodland mansion from this biome, it is rare.

Jungle

Jungles are full of huge towering trees covered in vines, and can be a great place to find unique resources. This biome is also home to ocelots and cocoa pods. You may also find jungle temples, which are small dungeons filled with stone and loot.

Taiga

The noble spruce tree is another tree that can be found in the taiga. This biome has a lot of hills, so you'll often see wolves or foxes walking around. Here you can also find sugar cane. There is a variant of the taiga which is covered in snow; it doesn't have sugar cane for your Minecraft farm but it does have frozen water. There is also a variant of taiga called 'Great Tree Taiga. It has thicker trees and mushrooms.

Snowy Tundra

Snowy tundras are covered in snow and ice blocks. These areas look very similar to plains but are much colder. Snowy tundras are covered with snow, which is a substitute for rain. You'll also find scattered spruce trees, roaming wolves, and snowy tundras that have snow falling. This Minecraft biome is also known as the "Ice Spikes Plains", which is covered in spikes of packed snow. This is a great spot to host your Minecraft Christmas.

It may surprise you to discover that deserts are filled with sandstone. Along with things like cacti, you can occasionally find desert wells and desert temples. It's not the most exciting area in the game, but glass can be made from sand so if you're planning on a Minecraft build with windows, it'll be good to keep an eye out for your nearest desert biome.

Badlands

The badlands look very much like deserts, except they are red. Their colouring is due to the mixture of clay and red-sand blocks, which dominate their makeup. There is often no life other than the odd cactus. You may occasionally find mineshafts underneath the badlands. These mineshafts have rails, along with a few other valuable items.

Savanna

Savannas are often found near deserts or badlands. They act as a kind of middle ground between the more vibrant plains, and the less-vibrant wastelands. Acacia trees can be found alongside villages, horses, and even sheep. It also doesn't rain, which is great.

Mushroom Fields

Mushroom farms are strange, isolated islands that are often far from the main landmass of any given planet. They are covered in a form of dirt called mycelium. You will find huge mushrooms here. There is also a mob called the mooshroom which is a cow made out of mushrooms.

Mountains

Massive stone hills can be found in mountain areas, which often conceal caves. This can lead to some spectacular sights. These areas are home to many natural wonders such as waterfalls and lava falls. This is a great biome to visit for early-game access to ore, as the caves that spawn here are often easy to see from a distance.

Caves

Caves are often underground labyrinthine areas that can be found with a variety of ore types, enemies, and a variety other materials.

They come in a few different variants, with the Minecraft The Wild update introducing new ones like the 'deep dark', which is home to the Warden boss, and 'dripstone caves' that are so large they can have rivers in them. There are also 'lush caves' that are full of plantlife. Caves are a great spot to find amethyst.

Ocean

Surprising absolutely no one, the ocean is a big old mass of water. It's genuinely huge, and is full of aquatic animals which vary depending on how deep you are and also how warm or cold it is. The deep ocean can be found in deeper waters, but it also has abandoned mineshafts and ocean memorials.

We recommend you make potions to help. While you're down there keep an eye on the infamous Minecraft trowel!

You can find your Minecraft biome here

Looking for a particular biome in your Minecraft seed? The Minecraft Java edition has a biome finder command that can be used to locate the nearest instance. Enter /locatebiome and you will be able to teleport yourself (or walk) to the nearest biome.

If you search for a biome in a dimension that isn't in your current dimension or cannot be found nearby, the game will tell you that it "couldn't find [biome] within reasonable distance."

That's everything you need to know about Minecraft Biomes. As major updates are made, new biomes and biome variations are often added.
