Minetest, the Minecraft-like voxel game engine (and an easy game that is included) comes with a new release out with Minetest 5.4.0 and is worth a second go.
As we covered before during the release Candidate stage, one of the big advantages for users of this version is that it is much easier mods, both small packs and entire games. Minetest had a way to browse and download all mods directly within the game for some time however, it now will also download all of the dependencies mods require, making it much easier to get the mod you want and then into an actual game. No more downloading one mod and then having to find all the individual bits it requires.
The built-in game "Minetest Game" was also given a few enhancements. Although it's not much in its own, it can serve as a good base to showcase the engine and to extend with mods. Minetest 5.4.0 now includes crafting guides and five additional wood variations, as well as environmental sounds for active furnaces and lava, and a variety of bug fixes and translations. It continues to grow slowly and steadily into something a bit larger from the box.
Other features include the ability to change the cross-hair when you point at objects, freely binding mouse buttons names for players now have semi-transparent backgrounds, a caverns feature to create flat maps and the 'place’ and 'fig keys can be freely configured. There are many fixes to bugs, such as the inability for players not to gain access to the inventories of others.

Really great to discover this open source and free game engine and game doing so well. Going by the official server list, it appears like a lot of players regularly play games with Minetest with hundreds of players online when this article is live. Awesome!
