Today we’d like to introduce you to Mae Riley.
Hi Mae, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Tuskegee, Alabama. I sang in the church choir and acted in a church play. I won a national poetry contest and won a scholarship to a summer theatre arts program. There I was in a play. I sang in school choirs. I got started modeling as a teenager with a photo shoot by my brother Beni’eare in Atlanta. I joined modeling sites and did shoots. I launched my business in 2005. I joined business sites and social networking sites. Built a network and made some friends. I have done business and worked with some of the people and businesses in my networks, and plan on working with more of them over the next ten years.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had many challenges, but I have succeeded regardless. Living in a smaller market, not being represented by an agent, and not having a manager or publicist. I haven’t had a team to assist me. I have done much of the work alone. I have learned a lot doing things, doing almost everything for myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a model, actor, writer, and entertainer; I am mostly known as a model and entertainer. I am a published poet also. In 2006, the media in New York, Black Star News dubbed me Alabama’s Pride. I have been in magazines and plays. I have done runway. I have recently written several songs and more poetry that I plan to publish. I plan to make music in the next few years.
What do you think about happiness?
My work, my businesses, hobbies, family, friends, and pets make me happy. I enjoy modeling, acting, singing, and dancing. I enjoy writing poetry and music. I enjoy painting and drawing. I enjoy learning new things. I enjoy reading and listening to music. I enjoy traveling, eating, cooking, and attending parties, clubs, and events. I enjoy meeting people. I enjoy helping people by teaching them and motivating them. I enjoy watching movies and television. I enjoy surfing the web and chatting. I enjoy doing business. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends who I love. I love my pets.
