    IN remembrance of the clusterf**k that was Hurricane Katrina, I give you now a link to download and listen to a podcast that I did almost ten years ago as of this writing.

    Dated September 9, 2005, this podcast was more than an experiment on if I even wanted to do podcasts at the time (I only did two of them and then decided not to do them at this time– I don’t remember why) than it is a documentation that I am actually quite proud of, looking back.

    I think my commentary was spot on and hard-hitting. Note that I normally don’t like myself this much, so grab a copy and listen to it and see what I mean! :)

  • America the Beautiful

    Un-American? Singing America the Beautiful in any other language than English is un-American?

    The hypocrisy in this “outrage” is dizzying to me.

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought America was supposed to be the “land of the free”? Freedom to be who we are? Embracing our heritage while celebrating a life of freedom is what the promised land of America is all about. Or at least it was supposed to be.

    People singing America the Beautiful in their native tongue should be taken as a compliment. It’s an expression of love for this land from far to near; the belief that America is the promised land for all to be free to be who they are without prejudice, imprisonment, or death. To condemn anyone for singing America the Beautiful in any language would be akin to denying that this is a land of freedom, not to mention that the first language spoken on this great land was not English. Have we really all forgotten where our ancestors came from and that we all are descendants of immigrants seeking freedom from oppression?

    Denying freedom of expression to anyone is what is un-American.

    And don’t even get me started on the comments all over the Internet about the “desecration of our National Anthem”. No elaboration on that should even be needed.

  • The system ain’t broken

    The system ain’t broken. It’s those who are breaking it that are broken. THEY have to go. The Constitutional Republic system is the greatest FOUNDATION for a government ever created by mankind. Problem is, LIKE anything created by mankind, it’s not perfect. BUT it was given (via the Amendment process) a method to MAKE IT MORE perfect over time, by the Framers. They gave WE THE PEOPLE the responsibility to keep that document fresh and to work out the “bigger issues” (like slavery, suffrage, etc.) later, as we went along, and then add Amendments to codify them into the Constitution itself. Their leaving some major issues for later was called “The Great Compromise” and without IT… there would have been NO Constitution at all. So they all agreed, better to have an imperfect document we can work TOGETHER and fix later than NO document at all. IF the Framers made ONE mistake in judging human nature, that was it.

    At least they were smart enough NOT to create a democracy! This isn’t a democracy, thank GAWD. Because history has shown than when you give the uninformed masses a say in ANYTHING, you get a lot of drool on yourself in response. IN fact, they protected us FROM it by things like the Electoral College (where even the electors get to remain anonymous so that nobody shoots their asses for picking the “wrong guy”).

    Gotta give WE THE PEOPLE “credit” (pun intended) though… because from 1789 to 1860, they TRIED to work under the new Constitution, sorta. Okay, they DID try (as long as you were an adult, white male who owned property and paid taxes– everyone else had to wait a bit longer because that was, well, one of the issues that needed to be worked out still).

    But they did try. It was a miserable failure.

    By 1860, a few major issues caused, wait for it…. partisan lines in the sand (sound familiar?) that led ultimately to another one of our Civil Wars (1860’s). After that war, the “winners” forced some Amendments (13th and 14th to start with, but then they got on a roll… keep reading them, they get more funny as you go) with the excuse it would “prevent another war like this” when their real goal was just to make the whole thing their own. Those people are also known as “bankers” (sound familiar?) or back in their day, “carpetbaggers”. And they got what they wanted because everyone else was distracted (sound familiar?) and was sick and tired of the fighting (sound familiar?) and just wanted to get back to being drunk and stoned and stupid– which is the “American Way!™” (sound familiar?). Hell, we even gave up our currency to pay a WAR DEBT to the British… avoiding their foreclosure on our entire country by literally giving them control of the ENTIRE CURRENCY instead (See: Act of 1871, Federal Reserve Act of 1913, 14th Amendment (Section 1), 16th Amendment! and lots more).

    Now, fast forward to today.

    Well… WE THE PEOPLE got lazy and didn’t use that Amendment process enough, nor did we guard it from those who would use it to their own ends, against the people. Then, WE THE PEOPLE let the inmates gerrymander themselves into trenches and take over the asylum. Then, WE THE PEOPLE stopped voting. Then, WE THE PEOPLE stopped paying attention. Then, WE THE PEOPLE got fat and lazy and drunk and stoned and stupid.

    Now, WE THE PEOPLE are about to get what we, the people, deserve.

    You’re being duped by your Federal Government and by the corporate mass media that they control. I don’t care if you’re “red” or “blue”… you’re still being duped. Would you like proof that even you, my dear Dumbass, can understand? Fine. Read the following carefully and slowly, please, because it uses something that might be foreign to you– something called “logic”.

    If the government is “shutdown” then they are supposedly “closed”, right? Okay then, wouldn’t a closed enterprise not have to spend as much money as an “open” one? Not being open means not spending money, right? Well, if they aren’t spending as much money because they are “closed”, then the debts they owe isn’t going up as fast, right?

    Now then: also know that WHILE the government is shut down, EVERYONE (all taxpayers and businesses and the like) that has to pay taxes still owes those taxes and is still paying those taxes. In other words: government INCOME is still coming in almost like nothing else has changed.

    So, if anything, they have MORE money now to throw at their bills, NOT LESS!

    So, wouldn’t that mean that if a “shutdown” government is spending less since they are “closed”, yet WHILE closed, they are still taking in practically just as much in taxes as they do when they are NOT shutdown, then where is the “risk” of “not having the money to pay our bills” that they are whining about?

    Only an IDIOT (an “idiot” is something that is only slightly worse than a dumbass) would believe the line that they have to have the government be OPEN in order to take in MONEY. If anything, they have MORE money to pay their bills with now, NOT LESS. And guess what? They still take in plenty of money on WEEKENDS and during vacations and on holidays. ;)

    Do you understand this? Or do I have to “dumb it down” even more for you? Please, quit being a dumbass and wake up, okay? I thank you, and your kids that you don’t remember conceiving because you were wasted that night will one day thank you, too.

  • The Fifteen Rules of Sheep Herding (new version 2.0!)

    (NOTE: The original v1.0 is buried here on thombone.com.. just go there and search for it. This is a massively updated version that simply expands upon the original yet is not designed to replace it. Some may actually like the original better and it shall remain in release for that reason. That being said, I still decided merely to give this work an editing pass, with my immediate goal being to make it a bit more clear for my target audience while continuing to not even bother to explain this to everyone else because I know better than to even try.)

    The Fifteen Rules of Sheep Herding (version 2.0)

    If these 15 rules make sense to you then please allow me to be one of the first to say congratulations, for you are part of a very small minority that are capable of “fielding them.”

    Rule #1: The best way to herd sheep is to do it out in the open.

    Rule #2: Give your sheep a constant supply of grass to eat and they will never even think to look up at what you’re doing to them.

    Rule #3: When it IS time for them to look up, make sure you really get their attention with full force. Scared sheep will go wherever you want them to go and are much easier to herd.

    Rule #4: Shepherds cannot herd other shepherds. They can only agree or disagree on a strategy to herd the sheep.

    Rule #5: Sheep do not know the difference between grass and dirt and rely on shepherds to discern it for them.

    Rule #6: Sheep cannot see nor grasp the whole pasture. Thus, it’s up to the shepherd to know when to herd them to the next patch of grass. Sheep need their shepherds, otherwise, the sheep will just keep eating, oblivious to the consequences, until there is nothing left of the patch that they are currently on.

    Rule #7: Good shepherds will regularly rotate their grazing pastures, creating a sustainable environment for the benefit of all. Corrupt shepherds are only interested in fattening the sheep for slaughter and do not care about the environment. Thus, corrupt shepherds must artificially create sustainability by acquiring, often by force, the pastures of other shepherds. This is a big source of conflict.

    Rule #8: Sheep do not know and cannot know, on their own, what they like. This is why they will follow almost anybody. Call your herding destination a “fashion” or a “fad” and the sheep will blindly follow and will treat it as if it were grass.

    Rule #9: Sheep respond well even to the illusion of critical mass.

    Rule #10: Sheep do not know that they don’t know. Shepherds, however, MUST know WHAT the sheep do not know and must always remain aware THAT the sheep do not know.

    Rule #11: Sheep need to be constantly reminded of their role, while shepherds must remember both their own role as well as the role of the sheep: The sheep’s job is to eat grass, to consume, while the shepherd’s job is to continuously figure out how to keep the sheep from eating dirt by providing new sources of grass.

    Rule #12: Sheep should never be given the role of shepherd, but in the event that it does happen, even if by mistake, correct the problem immediately before they can do any real damage to the flock. If they resist such correction, break one of their legs for their own good so that they can only stay by your side and not cause more trouble.

    Rule #13: One born a shepherd can choose freely to live like a sheep, but one born destined to be a true sheep can never successfully live as a shepherd. However, in rare cases some are born into the role of sheep by mistake and can yet overcome the role cast upon them, but it isn’t easy. It requires an extremely difficult process of convincing the sheep to follow you as well as gaining the respect and acknowledgement of the other shepherds; while also convincing the future shepherd to give up and leave behind the creature comforts of the sheep lifestyle.

    Rule #14: Shepherds must always be on guard against any “wolves in sheep’s clothing” infiltrating their flock. When it does happen, the shepherd must take immediate strong action and such action must be to completely destroy the wolves without mercy. If the shepherd allows even one injured wolf to escape, it will simply return later with reinforcements and resentments.

    Rule #15: Sheep are incapable of grasping and understanding these rules. Nor will they try to. Nor will they even care.

    By the way, it’s the BLACK sheep in the attached picture that the article is speaking to. For THEY are the only one with a chance to ever become shepherds. And yes, call that one a FREE BONUS rule.. #16!

    So, here we go:

    Rule #16: Only the black sheep could ever have the chance to rise and become a shepherd, for the process requires an almost total lack of concern for the herd mentality.

    By the way you can tell if you are one of the “Idiocrats” (my word, ©2013 me! hehe) pretty easily. Here is how:

    If you consider yourself to be a “democrat” or a “republican”, or even “right” or “left”, then you are without a doubt in the mind of the informed, an Idiocrat.

    “Baaaaaaaaaaa-ut WHY,” You may ask?

    Well, not only do you blindly believe anything that a group of people that do not have your best interests at heart tells you to believe, but you are also incapable of grasping the concept that there may be more than two sides on an issue in this world. Since you can only hold two sides to an issue in your mind (“red” side and “blue” side), then it is clear to the enlightened that you can only think TWO dimensionally. If you could mentally hold on to more than that, then you would see plain as day that the “two political parties” are just a ruse designed to keep you running in your hamster wheel… and to keep you pre-occupied, arguing ceaselessly about whatever talking points they give you.

    Not only can you not grasp a potential third side (or fourth, or more) to an issue, but you are actually terrified of the very idea of it. More than two possibilities (one to side with without reason and one to fight against without reason, because this is purely an emotional endeavor and reason does not enter into it), the very idea of more than two dimensions thus must intimidate you. And so you freak out, lashing out at everything around you. Against this possibility of a third dimension to an issue, denial is your first weapon of choice. Your backup carry is name calling and your deep carry last resort weapon is the race card.

    That makes you an idiot, sorry. And thus, an Idiocrat. Unevolved intellectually. A Dunning-Kruger Effect poster child. I would thus surmise that Darwin would probably plot you somewhere near “turnip” on the evolutionary scale.

    P.S. Don’t think I forgot about the “nuclear option” when even the “deep carry” race card doesn’t work out for you. But, you know, that “nuclear option” Hitler card is old, worn out, faded, bent, creased, frayed and has become a parody of itself. So what’s next, chemical warfare? Or are we back to poisoning our way to power like in the “good ol’ days” of the British Monarchs?

    Fan: Hey Thom, come to our town and play! I’ve been your biggest fan for years and years and would love to see you live!

    Thom: Well, we have a new EP out. Maybe you could support us. We have kick ass new t-shirts too and stuff. That would help a LOT to make a tour possible…

    Fan: Oh wow, I never read your page! I didn’t know! So tour and come play here man!!

    Thom: Well, to do that I have to be able to keep the band alive long enough to actually get there and back. Unfortunately, the members of my band are human, and thus they need stuff like food and shelter. The van also needs gas which ain’t cheap.

    So tell me, will you support Butt Trumpet by maybe picking up a copy of the new EP or perhaps a t-shirt or something so that we can get the band fund saved up to actually tour and to get there?

    Fan: Nah, I’m broke.

    Thom: Are you drunk right now?

    Fan: Hell yeah!

    Thom: And you found the money to pay for THAT right?

    Fan: Well, uh….

    Thom: Every chance we get, actually. That’s not the point. We’ve invested our life savings into making high quality merchandise for you, as well as a brand new recording that people have been begging us for for years and years.

    IF you want us to tour and play in your town, you have to help make that happen by supporting us because without you our only other option is to suck corporate pole, and well, we just won’t do that. Again, we have integrity.

    Fan: Most bands suck anyway. They are all clones of each other.

    Thom: That’s because so-called “fans” aren’t supporting the good bands with their wallets. Thus, those bands can’t afford to stay together, pay for recordings, make those recordings, buy the gear they need, buy the gas to tour, buy food to eat and stay healthy on the road, etc. etc. They can’t be HEARD because they cannot afford to put anything out there. They certainly can’t afford to tour for free. So what you get is a constant dose of sell-out, “suit sponsored” generic bullshit to listen to.

    You don’t believe me? Leave your house right now. Leave your wallet at home–all of your money, leave it at home. Now go try to travel the country. Let me know how it goes for you, I’m curious.

    Fan: It’s not my problem, I’m just one person!

    Thom: You’re right, it’s not your problem: it’s your FAULT.

    The scene sucks because YOU ARE IT.

    Here is why I (do NOT have a problem with but still personally) cannot subscribe to and limit myself to only one established religion:

    Nobody has been able to explain to me why they stress keeping a closed mind in regards to the Infinite. Nobody has ever been able to give me even ONE reason that I can accept as to why their “way” is the ONLY way and that all others should be “rejected” as “heresy” (or whatever).

    I’m sorry, but I cannot accept anyone telling me that I have to close my mind to anything at ALL when it comes to the Infinite.

    Maybe this is a bit personal, but hey, it’s not like “they” haven’t figured out how to bypass my “tinfoil hat encryption” technique anyway, right?

    Secret Stuff in Windows 7

    There are lots of hidden, undocumented features in Windows 7. You may have heard of “Godmode” which is a hidden control panel that gives you tons and tons of useful links to windows settings without having to hunt for them.

    However, there are many more. I am providing you a nice list, and at the end I’ll also give you the classic “God Mode” one.

    These MAY work in Windows Vista but I doubt that all of them would because 1) They have only been tested in Windows 7 becuase I won’t run Windows Vista if you paid me and 2) Why the hell would ANYONE run Windows Vista?

    To make these work, create a new folder with any name, then a period, then add any one of the text strings below.

    For example, the first one could be a folder named “thombonerules.{00C6D95F-329C-409a-81D7-C46C66EA7F33}” (use everything inside the quotes but NOT the quotes themselves).

    Here’s the list of strings (along with what they do):

    {025A5937-A6BE-4686-A844-36FE4BEC8B6D} (Power plan settings)

    And, finally, to create the infamous “Godmode” folder itself, use this string:

    So, for example (again), to create, say, the Godmode folder, create a “New Folder” on your desktop, and name it exactly this: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    For the others, just build the folder name string accordingly calling it whatever you want to the left of the period, and then pasting the string with no spaces at all (not even at the end) after the period. Then your hidden shortcuts/features/etc. will appear.

    The Star Spangled Banner

    In 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem, Defense of Fort McHenry. The poem was later put to the tune of (John Stafford Smith’s song) The Anacreontic Song, modified somewhat, and re-titled The Star Spangled Banner. Congress proclaimed The Star Spangled Banner the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.

    Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
    What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?
    Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight,
    O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
