FAQ
-
What is digital music distribution?
Digital music distribution is the process of making your tracks publicly available to stream or purchase online. You upload your music one time. Then your distributor delivers that music to platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube. Your distributor will also ensure you get paid for all streams, downloads, or social usages that generate revenue.
-
How does digital music distribution work?
ReverbNation's music distribution process is fast and simple. You tell us about your music, upload your cover artwork, and add your music file(s). Once you submit your album or single for distribution, our team will review the release to make sure everything is ready! Then we'll deliver it to the music platforms you've selected.
-
How does digital music distribution work?
Once you've finalized your music for distribution, our team will inspect the release. Assuming there are no issues, we'll then send your music to platforms like Spotify.
However, streaming platforms will require additional time to process your music. Most take 1-5 business days, though some services may take longer. Whenever possible, we advise you to set your release date at least 2 weeks in the future.
ReverbNation will deliver your track(s) as soon as they're ready, but Spotify will NOT make your music available until your release date, which you can select during the distribution process.
-
How do I get music released on TikTok and Instagram?
Easy. It's part of our music distribution process!
Music discovery today is driven by social video platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. Do you want fans to create their own fresh content using your tracks? Then be sure to select TikTok and Meta (Instagram & Facebook) when you're choosing platforms for distribution.
-
How do music distribution earnings work?
The short answer is: We'll collect the money you're owed, report all activity, and pay you 100% of your earnings.
However, it's important to know that each music platform has its own accounting schedule. Some pay earnings in the second half of the month that follows the activity. For example, if someone streamed your song on June 1st, you may not get paid until late July. Other platforms report earnings three months after the activity.
We will add both the activity report and earnings to your ReverbNation account as soon as we receive them from DSPs (the music platforms).
-
Are ISRCs and UPCs required for music distribution?
Yes, but ReverbNation is happy to provide you with both for free during the distribution process.
A UPC identifies a particular music release and helps with proper reporting and payment. An ISRC identifies an individual track.
If you previously released a single that is now going to reappear on an album, you can keep the ISRC the same (as long as it's the same recording). This will help ensure your stream-counts and playlist placements for that track remain consistent.
For more info, see our musician's guide to UPCs and ISRCs.
-
How does playlist pitching work for upcoming music releases?
Both Spotify and Amazon Music have made it easy for artists to pitch new music for playlist and editorial consideration. You can do this BEFORE your upcoming album or single is released!
That means your music must be delivered to those platforms in advance of your release date. Spotify requires at least seven days (plus another day or two for ReverbNation delivery and Spotify processing). Amazon Music allows you to pitch as soon as they've processed your upcoming release, and you can even pitch the track up to fourteen days AFTER the release date.
To make the most of every release, don't forget to mention these four things in your Spotify playlist pitch!

What's the difference between à la carte distribution and ReverbNation membership?
You don't need to be a member to distribute music through ReverbNation. You can pay an annual fee (per release) to make your music available worldwide on Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, and more. You can launch a single for $1.
Distribution for non-members still includes fast delivery, helpful support, and custom metadata — plus, you keep 100% of your earnings.
By contrast, ReverbNation Premium members can distribute unlimited releases FOR FREE.
But ReverbNation members also get:
- Unlimited submissions to promotion opportunities
- Industry access and mentorship opportunities
- Sales tools and fan-reach features
- Artist development resources
- And much more
