About Bruce
Bruce Hurley Johnston is a Berklee-trained multi-instrumentalist, with a doctorate in music composition from the University of Miami. He was the recipient of a Talent Scholarship from Berklee College of Music and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Johnston has won several composition and film scoring awards and has collaborated and performed on classical guitar with avant-garde music legend Elliott Sharp. Most recently, he performed with American Idol Winner, Kris Allen, as well as the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. He has 19 years of experience teaching private lessons on both guitar and bass.
Johnston is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Ouachita Baptist University where he is Chair of the Music Industry degree program while overseeing the Guitar and String Bass instrumental programs. Along with private lessons, he also teaches music theory, aural skills, songwriting, production, and audio recording. He studied string bass with Rusty Holloway within the lineage of the great Dave Holland. Johnston has also studied with jazz legends Donald Brown and Jerry Coker and can be seen around the mid-South performing with Charlotte Taylor, Almost InFamous, FreeVerse, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, as well as a host of other great talents. He can also be heard playing lead guitar every Sunday morning at The Church at Rock Creek in Little Rock, Arkansas.
