From the Inside Flap
In this book we are embarking on a journey of review during most of which you will not have to think at all about the point in time when you will actually stop smoking.
Understanding the factors of the addiction creates the right preparation and supplies the tools that you will be able to use at the stage when you are ready to become free.
--------------------------------
SAMPLE #2
The 'Smokefree way' is an intellectually contemplative program that views the act of cessation as a unified whole. We don't put forward worthless suggestions or supply superficial tips for quitting. Our goal is to change the way in which we perceive our smoking based on a systematic and focused grasp of the issues.
Once you have fully understood the addiction, you will discover that your interaction with smoking, and the extent of your dependence on cigarettes, changes at a point at which we have barely yet touched on the issue of cessation itself.
At a later stage we go on to deal with our transition to becoming smokefree and the actions and techniques we need to adopt in order to begin that process. However, we only reach that stage after we have collected sufficient knowledge and created a firm awareness.
It's a magnificent method that works in a sophisticated way that avoids a direct confrontation with smoking as such. Instead, we focus on understanding the basis of what lies beneath the surface of our smoking so that we don't have to feel pressured or inconvenienced as we progress along the way. It is as if we are flying under the addiction's radar.

About the author

Tamir Turgal is a writer, jurist, public speaker and ex-smoker. While engaged in an in depth research project which led to his own personal quitting, he unearthed a unique way to set free from the distressing addiction to smoking by using exactly the same tools that created and sustained the addiction.
The 'Smokefree way' focuses on understanding the components of the addiction, creating an awareness of its physical and mental aspects which are the foundations of actually quitting. The program was developed and tried in the framework of a controlled setting over the course of about three years before it was launched commercially. This process was conducted in a way that closely resembles the usual food and drug administrations' accepted procedures.
The resulting comprehensive study is now being offered for the first time in a written format, and is the most effective guide written so far on smoking cessation. This is an outstanding program that really works. It is based on a unique approach that leads to a change in the way we experience the addiction to smoking even during the reading of the text. Along the way we reach a point of readiness to set free from smoking without any special effort, and move on calmly and positively to becoming smokefree.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2015This book will show you how smoking alters your life. It will give you a understanding of how smoking became a daily thing and in the process show you a way out forever.
Nicotine addiction can be like any other addiction. I felt that the author explained this in a way that I at last understand the hold it has on you.
In depth information on the psychological effects of nicotine.
How smoking plays out in our social lives.
The science of how our brains are affected and reacts.
What I really liked was while reading I never felt preached to. I never once read how it can make me have this medical condition or that one.
That in itself was a big plus here. No smoker while wanting to quit wants to hear it.
He does cover all the wants to hear. Like why when I hate the dirtyness of this habit can't I just stop?
I hate the smell so why not just stop?
My last dollars I spend on this so why?
If you are a smoker and have been for countless years and tried everything to stop with no success. This book shows you every place you go wrong.
All explained in an easy to read format. No big medical terms or any other things to buy, such as aids to help you.
Truly believe that the Smokefree Way is pure and simple the only true way to be free.
I highly recommend this.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016Excellent book! From the bottom of my heart I am thankful to Tamir for writing it,and sharing his knowledge with the rest of the world!!! It is more then informative, gives excellent guidance and emotional support and understanding! The reader can feel that his perspective towards smoking is changing during the read, and when one is done, can feel that is ready to become non smoker and more then that, one is excited to do it!! I would recommend it to every smoker in this world!! All I can say that I smoked two packs a day, sometimes even more, now I smoke NONE!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2018I read this book because I wanted to suggest it to my patients and find a better way of smoking cessation for them. The book mainly breaks down how smokers start, then progresses and a step by step explanation of how the habit develops, the physiology of the excuses and the why you should give up.
Since Tamir himself was a smoker, the book seems so real, the examples apt and true to real life. I like the analogies he has used for quitting like riding a bike etc. Its also a book that places responsibility on you, it also prepares you for the hardship, the reason for withdrawal and all the other subconscious elements at work in smokers.
While I liked the book, I think its only best for smokers. If you're a health professional you can create a template and in each subsequent visit, impart one chapter in brief to your patient.
This book could have been so much better if the processes in the first quarter of the book or other chapters, could actually be drawn and depicted in diagrams. cycles, etc. Not many smokers will spend all the time reading these detailed chapters.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2015Sometimes I get new books to review. I just finished The Smokefree Way by Tamir Turgal. As an addiction counselor, I’ve read many books and heard many people talk about addiction and the process of setting oneself free. I’ve never read anything as clear and direct as this one.
Turgal offers a cognitive approach to recovery from addiction to tobacco, perhaps the most persistent and frustrating addiction of them all. When most people try to quit smoking, they gravitate towards the biochemical treatments of puffing, patches and pills. But, what Turgal says is needed, is a change in thinking. He exposes many of the delusions, excuses, misperceptions, and lies that keep people stuck in their addiction.
For instance, many people are overwhelmed by how hard they think it is to stop smoking, forgetting how hard it is to keep smoking. When you smoked your first cigarettes, you didn’t feel good, you were coughing and dizzy, but you persisted. For a few days after you smoke your last cigarette, you also don’t feel good; but, if you persevere, you’re free. Yeah, you’re grouchy when you quit. Temporarily. But, when you smoke, you stink. Sure, when you quit, you gain weight. Temporarily. When you smoke, you can’t breathe, Quitting requires some sacrifices. But it’s costly to smoke, time consuming, and shaming. Quitting is hard, but it’s no harder than smoking.
Turgal deserves an award for cutting through the bulls***, the smoke and mirrors, that surrounds cigarettes.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2014Meticulously and Intelligently written, I believe "The Smokefree Way" is the first and last book you'll ever need to read to set yourself free from nicotine addiction. About half way through reading the book I had a cigarette and it tasted as awful as the first cigarette I'd ever smoked. At that moment, with a cigarette in hand, I began seeing myself as a non smoker. I began reclaiming my identity as the non smoker I was before I started years ago. Many of you will experience the same thing as the majority of people in Tamir's workshops do. The same effort you used to become a smoker will be the effort you use to become a non smoker. As you read, you'll gain insight into how you became a non smoker and how and why you maintain the lifestyle, subconsciously and physically. It's important that you read the book carefully and over a period of time to process the information and allow yourself the time it takes to gain insight into how you continue to maintain a smoking lifestyle. The book will engage you and speak to you on the personal level that isn't found in other books on the same topic. Lastly, the author is genuinely interested in helping people become non smokers for life and has no other motive other than setting you on the road to freedom from nicotine addiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want to quit? READ THIS BOOK! There is no downside to buying this book!
It worked. Given up before but always knew i would go back to it. I always thought i was losing a friend. Not this time! This book has given me the belief that i am not losing anything and only gaining. Smokefree has completey over ridden the thoughts nicotine and then the lack there of produces. You want to give up? READ THIS BOOK! It costs less than a pack of smokes so its cost is a finanial investment in itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Butt out with this Book!!
This author clearly knows his stuff, and is generous enough to share what's he's learned from his own personal experience, about how to quit smoking in a very unique way. By dissecting the addiction the reader has an understanding of the psychological and physical dependence behind the habit that keeps them hooked. It really gets down to the nitty gritty, but in a very positive way. He likens stopping the addiction to backing out of a mine, slowly and carefully, and reminds the reader that they weren't born this way.
I think a book of this caliber could easily be effective in helping to treat other addictions, because it gives one back the power to help change one's mindset. And as the author too points out "If you keep an open mind...this will work."
I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone I know who is looking to quit! A+
This book was provided by the author, but the above review was not influenced by this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Try it, you might be surprised.
I got this book because it was free on amazon and I wanted to try something different. I have been a nicotine addict in one form or another for about 8 years. The latter two years being 'vaping'. I am one of those people who started smoking quite late, in my early 20's, and quite quickly became hooked and have hand umpteen attempts at stopping. I first tried to quit only several weeks after I started, which of course failed. As did 10-20 other quit attempt I made, some more serious than others. The longest I managed to stop for was between 6 to 8 months, but I'd always go back to it. After the first few attempts using willpower, which often only lasted days. I read Allen Carrs book. 'The easy way to stop smoking', and 'The only way to stop smoking'. Which worked for a few months, and I can't really fault it because so many people have succeeded in using it. I must have read/listened to his programme 10-20 times and whilst I always quit, it's never permanent. I'm not faulting his method, I know it's my own fault, but regardless of fault, I always found myself back to the dreaded nicotine.
So just before I was about to re-listen to Allen Carrs audiobook for the umpteenth time, I did a quick amazon search and found this for free on kindle so went for it. All can say is I am glad I did. It was very refreshing to read a different book but from someone with a similar perspective that I agreed with. I should reiterate that I came at this quit attempt having 'vaped' for two years and while the book didn't address vaping specifically it's the same principle and for all intents and purposes, while vaping I still felt like a smoker.
First of all I'll start with the negatives. The book needs an editor to review it, badly. It's littered with strange grammatical and spelling errors that often make salient points either very difficult to understand, or just interrupt the overall flow of the book. That being said I thought was well constructed. At this point I know the Allen Carr method like the back of my hand and it is seems quite clear to me that the author has 'borrowed' some of his ideas, as certain phrases repeated often verbatim, as are key concepts. Whilst I was normally dismiss this as copying. I think the main strength of this book is that it builds on Allen Carrs method in a way which he should have in his own book 'The only way to stop smoking'. I remember reading that and it just felt like it was a longer winded version of the standard book 'Easyway to Stop Smoking'.
Allen Carrs book also had a tendency to be very repetitive and at times patronising, and I can't tell you how much of an idiot I felt having to listen to his audiobook over and over. I know, I am an idiot, but I kept going back and I felt like I had no other decent method other than sheer willpower, which I knew wouldn't have worked.
This book approaches things differently, even though I am medically trained and well understand how addiction develops. This book ties in the biological, physiological, social and subconscious aspects as to how you became addicted to smoking in the first place and helps you to go in the opposite direction towards quitting. I felt it delved deeper into the reason as to why we keep smoking irrespective of already knowing all the negatives. After listening to Allen Carrs method, I was well aware that I was addicted to nicotine, and that it actually didn't do anything for me, but here I was still doing it. This book also doesn't encourage you not to make a big deal over the final cigarette, which Allen Carr did. Something I always found a bit daunting. It's a bit early to say if this will in fact be the book that helps me quit forever, but I'm coming at it from a feeling of calm and a level of preparedness that I haven't felt previously, and I feel confident.
I also wanted to write this review because I think it works perfectly well if you are vaping, and if you are someone who used to smoke, and now vapes, and wants to stop that too, you're often treated as if you're crazy by those who vape. You can definitely apply all the principles written to vaping instead, he doesn't really talk about the health implications anyway so the fact that vaping is supposedly safer doesn't come into the discussion.
I'll update this in due course to let you know how I've got on, but I feel silently, or rather not so silently confident.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Money Youll Spend.
Hi, I rarely ever write a review. Although I'm maybe like you - I read other people's reviews and makes my decisions based on them.
Can I just say at the outset, I bought this book solely on the recommendation of people's posts on here. I've never heard of the author or book before.
Because the book isn't well known. I thinks it's only fair that I do something positive and share my experience with you to maybe help and convince you. After all it a very big decision!!
Trust me - I once felt how you are probably feeling right now. You're still undecided whether to buy this book or not!!. You feel Desperate to be a non smoker but yet you're afraid. Afraid of the unknown. Failure. Life without your crutch. So you're undecided.
Well - Please spend the £6 or Whatever it is to buy this book. It will be the best £6 you will ever spend!!!!!
I'm smokefree 3 weeks tmrw. Being a 20-30 a day smoker already I've saved £300. I was a heavy smoker. I could chain smoke when I needed to. I would plan my life around them. I couldn't smoke foreign cigs so i always took enough packets with me on holidays. I couldn't wait to get off the plane to smoke. I'd even ration my cigs on holidays. I was the definition of a real addict.
But regardless of the money and slavery -
I now feel alive. I can breath. I feel great. And so can you.
Im always dubious about reviewers - do they work for the publisher etc to entice you to buy. Well I don't. I'm just a normal regular guy from Northern Ireland who smoked his brains out lol. And honestly I loved a wee smoke.
But I could not have quit cold turkey. And replacement therapies didnt work for me - such as patches etc.
So I made the decision - become a vaper or become a non smoker.
I decided to take a chance on this book.
So about the book -
I have read and tried Alan Carrs book. I quit for a year. It was very good. But I fell off the wagon. That was 6 years ago. It was my own fault though. However I do know others who Carrs book has worked for.
So why did I fall off the wagon ? - well it was my fault and now know the reason now. But I'm confident this book will help me stay smokefree Forever
Is it easy ? Well yes. But Don't get me wrong you have to want to quit. It does require a little bit of application and desire. The more determined you are - the easier it is.
The first 2 days I still would have liked to smoke but I resisted. And there was a little urge. Not as bad as it normally would be - but it was there. But it wasn't difficult at all. With Each passing day it's got easier - to the point where I don't really think about smoking at all.
The after dinner, coffee smoke (the ones we all loved) - I never think of smoking them now. It's strange.
Definitely As time goes on you think of smoking less and less.
I feel now I will never smoke again. Ever. I'm confident about that.
I don't smell anymore but my sense of smell is unreal
I smelt a smoker the other day. The smell was horrendous. She was at a wedding - she looked fab but the smell of her would have made you vomit. If she only knew how she smelt she wouldn't have spent so much time on her appearance. Ruined it.
I now look at the smokers outside airports etc and my heart goes out to them. But I'm so happy inside. I'm no longer a slave to the tobacco companies.
I went running the other day. I never liked running, but I never felt more alive.
I run now every day.
Please Buy the book. There's nothing to be afraid of. It's all very simple, logical and life changing.
Do yourself a favour. You'll be glad you did. Breath.
