A SPEECH (2018)
Following the murder of 17 year old Bobby Hutton by Oakland Police, community organizers held a press conference to address police brutality, white supremacy ,and the racist anti black narrative that still remains dominant today.
Marlon Brando, Hollywood actor and Black Rights Activist made a speech addressing the white community and our role in reinforcing white supremacist ideologies.
Using track stabilization in video editing software I position the focus on Bobby Seale.
The frame of the picture floats around the screen trying to maintain focus on Mr. Seale while the camera lens maintains focus on Marlon Brando. The resulting movement of the image exposes the performed labor of centering the white male totem, reinforcing white supremacy.
