Somms Under Fire Burgundy Tasting

I had a great time at the Burgundy tasting and the highlight was the opening of the champagne bottle. It was more like an example of what not to do, needless to say it was entertaining. If the experts make a mistake from time to time I feel it’s more then okay if I do as well.

The Gonet-Medeville Brut- Tradition NV was my favorite something about the small bubbles and the earthy smell and lively flavor really spoke to me. They also featured the following:

Jose Dhondt Brut Blanc De Blangs NV

Bruno Clair Marsannay Blanc 2010

D'Ardhuy Sauvigny Les Beaune 2009

Oh I forget to mention this wonderful tasting took place at the Red Room. If you haven’t been be sure to check it out. It’s a nice low key place that really lends it’s self to the enjoying of wine. The best part is everyone was really nice and eager to learn about the wines presented.

Cupcakes and Cocktails 2013

I attended the Cupcake and Cocktails event and I will admit it left a sweet taste in my mouth. The best part is that the event was held to benefit the ARC of the Capital Area. There was a silent auction and I was thrilled to see so many vendors offering there items. There was art, cookies, cooking classes, cheese classes and wine just to name a few. I bid on some cookbook but sadly I was outbid.

The cocktails were provided by Treaty Oak Distilling, T1 Tequila, and Hops and Grain. All of the cupcakes were cocktail themed  and were provided by Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, SugaPlump Pastries, Delish, Blue Note Bakery, Butter Stick Bakery and Crema Bakery and Cafe. Thankfully Le Cordon Bleu also catered the event so I was able to get some protein after indulging in the sweet treats. One of the most interesting things I taste was the offerings of T1 Tequila.

I’ve come to the conclusion that life is just a series of auditions and how you handle them speaks loudly of your character.

Grab a piece of the pie

Austin is a vibrant city that seems unafraid to march to the beat of its own drummer. I will admit at first I didn’t get it, I often heard about activities I had little to no interest in. Once I began to look a little deeper, spent time seeking out cultural events, museums, the food scene and a few of the live music events I started to have my aha moment. There is something for everyone here in this city that to me is what makes it even more exciting. If you are crafty you certainly can carve out a piece of the Austin pie that is your own. If you are looking for something outside of Austin there are many cities near by that offer even more places to explore. You are only limited by your own imagination.

Even with the low lake levels Lake Travis is still beautiful. This lake is technically in Austin but is just a short drive from Cedar Park so I am lucky enough to see it often.

The Lifelike exhibit can be viewed currently at the Blanton Museum between June 23 - September 22, 2013.The exhibit is very detail orientated in the way it features common objects created with odd materials. Some of the items are created in odd sizes. When entering I walked by a milk carton that was taller then me. As you can see in the photos above the works are startlingly realistic.
